2000 infiniti g20 doesn't change gears while in drive?

I would say that it is stuck in 4th gear. A friend let me drive her car and I first realized acceleration sucked and it just sounded wrong at high speeds. I tested it is D1, D2 and drive and still the same. I looked at the transmission fluid and it seemed black. Any answers would be greatly appreciated
