How to make friends??????

In the begining pf the school year i switched from a private small school were i knew everyone and was real good friends with them, to a huge public school. I always have been quiet and sheltered. This is my second year of middle school and my mom says this is were you make friends for life (lol).... I have made friends with this one girl. But i would like to have a little more than just one or two. The girls at the school kinda have their own packs. I tried to talk to the girls that are in my orchestra cl but they still won't acknowledge me... Plus the girl who plays viola keeps hitting my in my head with her viola bow and i am not sure if it's on purpose or not... or if my cello is to close.... well wanywyas thanks for helping :)
