Why do the liberals want to give weapons to the rebels in Libya?

But here in our own country, they want to take weapons away from the citizens. The constitution says we should have weapons, for EXACTLY the same reason the rebels need them. TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM AN OPPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT!
