How can I program my verizon remote for my tv?

I recently purchased an Emerson flat screen tv. I wanted to program my remote I got from verizon for my verizon FIOS box. I went to verizons website and followed their instructions to program it. I tried every numerical code they had listed, but none worked. Is there another way to program it for the tv?
